Coming soon: the Rubik's Tesseract.

Meanwhile, exciting news from the twin worlds of toys and theoretical mathematics:

A 4D puzzle! Because after all, 3D is really in right now, and 4D - well, that must be one better! I wonder what the fourth dimension in which this eighteen piece plastic model of a clownfish exists is? Hopefully, the makers mean that they have discovered a method of imbuing this plastic fish with an extra coordinate axis, orthogonal to the other three, allowing it to inhabit a  previously purely abstract geometric reality, all whilst maintaining its famously Highy Detailed Finish. On the other hand I'll be a bit disappointed if it just means that the fish exists in time. Like the Archers.

Well, I went on the website for the company. Still no info about what 4D means but I did learn that the "Toys had been sold through various channels, including fast food shops (e.g. KFC & HARDEES)".

Thinking about it the 4 in 4D probably means that the insides have a puzzle element. So the blocks aren't flat on the inside. Not necessary on a clownfish but if you are building the 'Bell Rock' Lighthouse then yeah.

I found your blog interesting and useful. I added your blog to my favorites and i will come to visit again tomorrow. I have a blog about home remedies for sore throat :)

I suspect that this puzzle has fallen through a fracture in the space-time continuum from, let us say, 14 February 1971, and the puzzling hieroglyph 4D is actually the price: fourpence. A bargain, leaving enough change from a shiny shilling for a slab of Fry's 5 Boys, a whistle and Saturday morning at the pictures.

I don't think I want to see this fish in the 4th D. I mean, what will those high details be like?

The 4D aspect of it is that it falls apart before you even can get started.

ITIS... I just can't seem to picture what 4D is. I remember hearing from somewhere about how if an object of 3D passes though 2D, then in the second dimension, all that is seen is a 2D representation of the 3D object. The example used was that if a spherical ball was passed through 2D space, all that would be seen in the 2D space is a circle. From that, I assume if an object of 4D passes through 3D space, isn't all that we will see is a 3D object?

If it's 4d does that mean time is part of the puzzle like why would you spend any time on it?

Good find. Though I wonder, is it a collectible item in our universe or that 4th dimension verse?

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could
connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.

First of all I want to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question
that I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out. I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Many thanks!

"Oh, King Neptune, we are humble clownfish!"
Or 'coral fish' as the puzzle company thing called it. So, is the term 'clownfish' owned now? Is it a brand or something?

Anonymous said...

OK, so to put this together you have to collect various dates in the fish's alternate reality, possibly sail to 1929 on a ghost ship, and find a fictional version of August 6th, 1983.
(The latter two instructions are references to a graphic novel and a short story.)
