Hold the snide.

I feel this blog has got a little sneery lately, so here's something I saw in Edinburgh that I really liked. It made me both smile and admire everyone involved - the person who wrote it, and the people who did what they did when they read it. Click for a bigger version, if it's too small to read.

On behalf of the world at large, thanks to you and RLS. That made my day.

I had assumed an elephant would be involved when I saw your tweet about your favourite thing anyone's put on a brass plaque. No disrespect to the majestic pachyderm, but this was even better.

awesome :D

I would add to Debbie Cowens' comment that if you DO wish to see a brass plaque involving an elephant St Mary's Church in Stansted Mountfitchet has a memorial at the back of the church to a man who was crushed by an elephant while out hunting.
In some ways you can't help but sympathise with the elephant...

Hopeful and heartwarming, isn't it! Thanks for sharing. I was in Edinburgh this summer, had I'd know this gem was there I would have visited it myself.

I'll admit the fun snarky comments are part of what caught my attention and got me reading your blog, but warm fuzzies are also good.

Where is that plaque located, do you remember? I work in Edinburgh and am a big fan of RSL but I've never seen it. Is it near the writer's museum perchance? Anyhoo, I agree it is very sweet.

... Re-reading my post it sounds a little accusatory - I don't mean to imply that I doubt your veracity. That I believe you have fabricated this plaque in some way. I just ask out of interest because I'd like to see it myself :-)

Zceepy - Wow. That is almost worth going to Stansted Mountfitchet to see. Almost.

Jazzbaby3 - I think it's on Drummond Street, on the corner where Nicholson Street meets South Bridge. Somewhere near there, anyway.

William Prescott - Although I know you are just an automated spambot, I find your message strangely moving. Like you're a superhero, just for writers. I wish you existed.

One of the wonders of the internet is finding random gems months after they were posted. That plaque is one such gem. Made my evening. (I have a very limited social life.)

Cheers for that. :)

(I mean cheers for the post, not for limiting my social life and... oh god, I think I'll just go away now.)

Needed that :)

Oh, how nice! I needed that, too. :)
