Two things

Hello! I'm on holiday, but just a note to say firstly,  I have many incredibly important opinions about sea otters to share with you in today's Observer ; and secondly that the first episode of the new series of Souvenir Programme will be on BBC Radio 4 at 6:30 this Tuesday. Hope you enjoy one, or the other, or even both.

  1. Lovely, sweet, and funny sea otter column. I hope Guardian/Observer will pay you to write more for them if you wish.

Cheers for Souvenir Programme! I can't wait.

Continued great success to you. Hope you have an old (C.P.) and perhaps a new sitcom to give the world someday.

  2. Hurrah for both things! The Observer article is as thought-provoking as it is funny, and with series two of SP hitting Amazon next week I'm looking forward to SP overload.

    Enjoy your holiday! :)

Wow, you holiday almost as much as me, and that's saying a lot! What are you cycling around this time, Turkmenistan? (if you are, watch out for the flaming gas crater aka the doorway to hell, it's an OH&S nightmare!).

If, alternatively, you decide to cycle Uskerty, it had some very nice bicycle tracks. Although the signs kept trying to tell me they were roads. I did get some delightful pics of a farm and hedge. Which I think was the entirety of Uskerty.

Lovely otter article- just what I've come to expect from you. Not otters (well, sometimes otters) but an intelligent and articulate argument that makes the reader/listener think and also laugh. Also contains cute facts.

Finally, I was very pleased to find Souvenir Programme in BA's in-flight entertainment. Slightly disappointed that my worldwide hunt for in-flight CP continues to disappoint. One day Qantas will concede to my badgering!

Funniest thing I've read, seen or heard since the last time I listened to a Cabin Pressure, and I'm prepared to bet I won't hear anything funnier till... I'd say Tuesday night. I thank you greatly for your enlightenment of the general public on this subject and your vocal advocacy of the Anti-Slaughter of Small Woodland Creatures lobby. I didn't know any of those facts about otters. What I had heard, however, is that apparently you can fit a hundred of them in a sixteen-seat aeroplane..

Have a great holiday and thank you!.

Oh, Mr Finnemore! Another brilliant and awesome and accessible yet sensible and well-supported reason why you are my favourite being in the world!

(On a completely different note, are you aware of the mind-bogglingly high density of yellow cars in Italy, or at least Tuscany? I hope for his sake that Arthur gets to go there someday.)

  14. Brilliant as always. Thanks for the laughs.

The new JFSP episode was a delightful respite in my busy day and well done, as always.

  21. Fantastical Souvenir Programme today! You ought to get them to let you write the introduction bit ("if you like Cabin Pressure but prefer your humor in more bite-sized chunks then this is the show for you" seems to lack a certain flair) as the end bit was exactly on point! (Unfortunately I don't have a million pounds so I guess we'll have to suffer through next week.)

Love the new Souvenir Programme; so rarely seem to laugh out loud (oh lordy, should I have put 'LOL' in there...?) to Rad 4 comedy at the moment it's good to have something to look forward to. Only slightly let down by the ever-present need to 'finish' a sketch with a punchline etc. - perhaps the Pythons weren't so far off the mark; why not just let the humour hang where it is and fade onto the next sketch? Keep it up though!

Daniel Maier pointed me in the direction of JFSP. Answering the mobile and speaking the plot out loud were my favourites. The rest of it was ruddy good too.

  24. Your Souvenir Programme was wonderful as usual! I love it when your voice cracks excitedly. Mine would crack excitedly at the news of anything new from you, but that would require a forced yodel and that ruins the moment.
I mean- well done and I can't wait for more!

    Greetings from Germany (really)

Mr. Finnemore--Thank you for creating Cabin Pressure. Today I had to go to the dentist to fix a filling, something I avoided for 8 years or so due to dentistry terrors from childhood. My friend, who also loves CP and came to lend moral support, turned on "Fitton" on her ipad. Hearing Arthur at the beginning helped me immensely. The music, voices and banter of the MJN Crew always cheer me up. Even at the dentist. Which I previously thought impossible. Believe it or not, living out here in the Arizona desert can be a little rough at times, and in those moments when the heat begins to melt us, we turn on CP. It's a breath of fresh air to us! Again, you have my sincere thanks!

    Have a great holiday. Kristin

    Hello, John Finnemore,

last time in London I bought David Mitchell's Soapbox on DVD. I just watched some of the sketches and hooray! discovered that you wrote parts of them. Yes, I obviously could have known or looked it up before. But I didn't, and it was an unexpected pleasure to find your name in the credits.
Plus the expected pleasures of more scheduled episodes of JFSP...
    Enjoy your holiday!

So enjoying the return of JFSP - and thought it only right that you should know (and hopefully enjoy) that while waiting for a train at Paddington station the other day, I was singing 'Spiny Porcupine' (and not just in my head). Love it (and much more besides). Thank you! And hope you're having / have had a very nice holiday.

    Dear Mr. Finnemore,

I don't know if you are at the Hester Macauley stage yet and get tired of hearing praise, if so please just stop reading now.

I've only listened to Cabin Pressure for the first time a week ago and it is the funniest thing I ever heard! You created such wonderful and lovable characters in hilarious situations, and the snark is divine!

I have been listening to the episodes over and over (S01+02) every day. Thank you this wonderful work!

Have a lovely holiday and best wishes for the future, I'll be sure to check out your other comedies in time.

    A German fan

  42. ciiob180Saw "Only Connect" last night on BBC4(for overseas people this is a quirky quiz show on TV in the UK). One of the teams consisted of pilots! None of the three had Da da DA da da names, two had the surname Morgan (but I don't think they were Captains so no jokes there) the Captain WAS a Captain and also very tall, one was very short and two were bald. I think Martin woud have been cheered by them. However I would have liked to have tuned in and see the team being Martin, Douglas and Herc. You may never see this as I have to prove I'm not a robot and I always fail.

  44. How to make a birthday cake for Arthur:

    omit strawberries, dragonfruit, boeuf bourgignon, and lemons: they tend to be misplaced;

    wear orange (or yellow):

sing ("get dressed...") or recite the phonetic alphabet

How to make a birthday cake for John Finnemore:

    don't omit anything

    be generous

it's been more than two months...
Do you not like us any more? Have you found a new audience? One that's younger, sexier, with bigger tits and totally gets your jokes?
I don't want to believe it, and not only because my tits are massive. Much bigger than almost all other men's.
What are you up to? Any news about Zürich? Zweibrücken? Zagreb? Zakopane?
Anyway, hope you're well and just to say that the latest series of your Souvenr Programme was just as excellent as the first two, which is quite excellent indeed.

    All the best
