Pieces of advertising material that have recently annoyed me - part six of at least nine.

For a phone company, answering the question 'What would you do if you had free texts for life?'

Would you now. So, Chris Addison's ugly cousin, you've been wanting to start a superband for a while, have you, but what's held you back is that the only way you can think of to contact 'all the musicians you know' is by text; and you're not prepared to go to that expense unless, in some utopian dream-world, a phone company gives you free texts for life. You see, I worry that you might not quite have the drive it takes to succeed in the music business.

Also, surely you can't start with a superband? You have to have a band first, you can't skip straight to 'superband'. Unless they missed out the space, and he's actually planning to start a super band. With topping drums, and spiffy guitars. I do hope so.

This has made me determined to research the guilty phone company's identity, and then send them limitless free texts containing your deserved comments -probably not the desired effect of the advertisers.

Remember 10 years ago another phone company hijacked the images of John Lennon and the peace martyr in Tiannamen Square, merely to hawk phones. I'd like a one to one with their ad agency.

Oh, and I was just about to donate my DVDs of In The Loop, Lab Rats and The Thick of It to the charity shop, whilst contemplating the absence of Chris Addison's soul - then I realised they'd used a lookalike. Not being in favour of our nation's sudden lurch towards an increasingly litigous society, I'd nevertheless recommend that he sues.

Oh thank goodness someone else has discovered the utter mindless shallowness (shallowth?) of this ad ...

But , wow! free texts for life! I've been longing for them to ask me what I'd do ... gosh, how exciting - I'd probably at least double the number of texts I send now - which would take it close to, oooh, must be two every couple of months ...
