Most excellent! I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats.

Oh, come now. Not better than the bit where all the cats become a train, surely? But thank you.

(Disclaimer: I have never seen Cats. I understand there is a bit in it where all the cats become a train. I have a hard time visualising this (All the cats? Become a train?) but if it's true, I contend that any work of art in which all the cats become a train is hands down better than any work of art in which no cats become anything. And it is into this latter category, sadly, that this blog post falls.)

(Disclaimer to the disclaimer: Ok, 'work of art' is pitching a bit strong.)

Yes, there is a bit where they become a train. But I'm afraid it doesn't quite live up to the hype when you actually see it (I have seen it twice, because that's the kind of parents I have and they refused to let me see Phantom).

You can see the moment at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucg4tPYdlzI&feature=related - it comes about 3 minutes 20 seconds in - only it's even more underwhelming on the DVD version. It's also clear that it's not all the cats - even if you exempt Skimbleshanks himself, there's a very obvious fat cat who just stands watching as if to say "nah, I'm too fat to be part of a train".

I am embarrassed by my knowledge of Cats.

Oh. Yes, that is disappointing. Though I don't know what I was expecting.

But I did indeed enjoy the cat who decided he was too fat to be in a train. If the cat who lives in my house were a cat in Cats, that is the cat in Cats the cat who lives in my house would be.

Have you seen the bit in The Sound of Music when all the nuns become a giant bicycle? It's amazing. It fools the Nazis.
