Three Other Things

Firstly, Cabin Pressure Series III is being repeated on Radio 4 at 6:30 on Tuesdays, starting tomorrow, with Qikiqtarjuaq. Please have your egg-whisks and pogo-sticks at the ready.

Secondly, I'm very happy to say all three series of Cabin Pressure are being released on CD this year, at the beginning of July, August, and September. You can pre-order them here:

Cabin Pressure Series 1

Cabin Pressure Series 2

Cabin Pressure Series 3

Also, it's looking hopeful that I may get the chance to mess around a bit on the inside cover. No promises, but if you have any suggestions for things you'd like to see, feel free to put them in the comments. There's not much room, so they'll have to be quite small things. I'm thinking along the lines of Carolyn's to do list, Douglas and Martin's cheese-board tally, or Arthur's favourite bear facts...

Thirdly, I was in a bookshop the other day, and saw these two books side by side. Though they're both huge sellers, I wonder if there is anyone in the world who has read them both...

Carolyn's to-do list would be fantastic, a tally score chart of Douglas vs Talisker would also be awesome, or perhaps the rules of Yellow Car ^_^

But, a picture of Arthur's Toblerone collection would be utterly Brilliant!

You rock, Mr Finnemore!

What about some of Herc and Carolyn's text messages/love letters/assorted communications? For the third series.

I'd love to see your drawings of the characters - especially some of the minor ones, like Diego and Kieran.

A list of more things that make Arthur completely happy.
A drawing of Arthur's MJN Air brochure picture from Douz.
100 otters.
More examples of Arthur's phonetic alphabet.
More limericks.

Again, thank you for being so marvellous.

I'd like to see each actor's drawings of the character they play. It would be lovely and funny to see all of your drawing skills :)

I think you could probably hide a lemon in amongst 100 otters. Just a thought.

How about a cartoon of Snooperdoop as executed by Douglas? (take that however you want.) Or an image of Martin's pilot exam reports. An advertising card for Icarus removals? Do you have a copy of he infamous "Caroline strangling a customer" photo from the company brochure? How well could you conceal a travelling lemon on a CD cover? And how many "Brians of Britain" could you fit on the sleeve?

You clearly need a fancy box set collectors edition. It cries out for a sleeve liner notebook with space for us to record our yellow car tallies? (Is that the plural of tally? Or is it talii? What would the collective noun be for tallii/tallies? Sorry I digress.)

I really like the idea of each actor drawing their own character. Also, how about;
Top 10 most embarrassing reasons for an emergency landing
Martin's Christmas/birthday wish-list (or any of the other characters, actually)
More word games!

Whatever you come up with, I'm sure I'll love it...I will definitely be buying those CDs!

Hello, I'd like to see pictures of the recordings showing the cast. Perhaps a list of more people with evil sounding names? Or cartoons of the other characters like Kieran and Aunti Ruth... Martin's profile on a internet dating side? Drawings of the Christmas tree, the Secret Santa and the Christmas pudding? What about a DVD cover for this Camelot thing from the Cremona Ep?

Whatever it is, I love the show and I would fancy a 4th season.
But thank you for releasing CDs anyway, I'm oldfashioned but I like to store actual CDs instead of putting everything on my ipod, well CP is there anyway...

Love from Germany I'd be thrilled no matter what will actual made it on the inside

How many otters can you fit in a CD inlay? and definitely a lemon, for series 3. Possibly some cashew nuts coated in broken glass, and an emergency citrus pocket for series 2. I'd love to see some of Martin's revision notes.

Anonymous said...

Each character to draw their own character ^^ (like other people have said)
...and they have to actually TRY! ;P

Cathy in Nova Scotia said...

Firstly, will the CD's be available in Canada?

Secondly, it would be cool to have "Arthur" write the liner notes. He could include a list of things his mom always carries in her purse, the fact that Martin always wears odd socks for luck when he flies (different colours for each leg of the flight), and reveal a secret about Carolyn that only Douglas knows - you could have fun with that...

When it comes right down to it, we will all LOVE whatever you choose to do...

Looking forward to buying the CDs! I'd be kind of interested in seeing some of Arthur's recipes (e.g., Surprising Rice) and possibly Douglas' recipe for that carp dish. I'd also be interested in drawings of the characters (including GerTI, if possible). Lastly (for now) - rules for the various games as played on the show (Traveling Lemon, Yellow Car, etc.) - or Carolyn's tips for vacationing on the cheap (aside from "have the pilots pay for themselves").

Annie said...

I wonder if these CDs would be available in the states . . . on that note, I think it would be great to see a pre-trip packing list for Martin in the vein of "Captain dons cap". Perhaps a peak into Douglas' iPod playlist? Or maybe some cartoon photos of Arthur celebrating his favorite holidays with his mum, Douglas, and Martin (Christmas, Easter, his birthday, and Carolyn's birthday)? Carolyn's wall chart would also be lovely.

Thank you for being so wonderful Mr. Finnemore!

P.S. I might accept your challenge about reading these two novels as I love both cupcakes and space.

Since you have three CDS, therefore you'll have three liner notes spaces. So here's three ideas:

1.Facts about bears. No-one can ever have enough facts about bears.

2.A list of potential destinations for series 4...to whet our appetites (none of which MJN Air will actually visit, disappointing all of us who live in places that start with, I don't know, W or Y)

3.A mock-up internet dating page for Martin as made by Douglas.

prwelly said...

Oops, didn't see you'd already suggested the Arthur's fave bear facts. Sorry. Have to try to come up with something else.

As for the chick lit and Arthur C. Clarke combo? Girls can like both, you know. But there is good chick lit - hello, Jane Austen - and bad. And this seems to be from the ranks that always has that same graphic design on the cover. So, no.

I love the juxtaposition of those two books (and I'm guessing that store isn't big on themed displays) but I think you might be wrong when it comes to no one reading both. I haven't read those two particular books, but I have read a Jenny Colgan novel, and lots of other chick-lit, and quite a few sci-fi. No Clarke, but definitely some Isaac Asimov and Philip K Dick.

I've found in 12 years working in and owning bookstores that, while the majority of people do stick to the same genre all the time (and don't get me started on gender-specific genres), the true booknerds will try a little of everything. You should see some of the strange pairings on my own shelves!

Damn, now I want to go challenge everyone I know to read something completely different from their genre of choice! Or maybe just myself. I've never read a Western before...

Eclectic Man said...

Lots of really good ideas by previous posters, otters, lemons, cars etc. Here are my own suggestions:

Now this one is a bit weird, but there really are people who actually collect airline sick bags (fresh) signed by the crew...

Please tell me the Christmas Special will be included. As for the inside cover, some of Carolin's flight plans, and Arthur's recipe for mulled Petrus '05, possibly a 'still' from Douglas' pre-flight safety briefing.

Please consider hiding a sheep, a lemon, a bottle of whiskey and the passenger who died of a heart attack when Arthur extinguished his illegal cigarette and a yellow car somewhere in the design.

Just realised, the cover is the place for commendations from previous customers, extolling the virtues of MJN Air over other, possibly better known, carriers. Phrases like "An unforgettable trip", "memorable cuisine", "enthusiastic steward", "cheap", and, of course, "BRILLIANT", spring to mind.

And Cabin Pressure is my favourite. I mean, I think I actually like it better than the Hitchhiker's Guide, which I find hard to believe. It amazes me that you manage to make all four characters so compellingly sympathetic in spite of their all being so horridly flawed.
