Three things.

- Radio 4 are repeating the first series of Souvenir Programme on Thursdays at 6:30, starting today. Today's includes the Three Guards sketch, and The Man Who Makes The Noise of the Tardis.

- Cabin Pressure has been nominated for best comedy and also, pleasingly if slightly confusingly, best comedy drama at the BBC Audio Drama awards. I will find out which it is - if either - on January 26th.

- It's also time for the comedy.co.uk awards, which are voted for by the public. If you should feel like voting for either CP or JFSP, I certainly won't stand in your way.

Voted! Good luck, I hope you get the wins that you deserve.

Drama, definitely drama, funny, but mostly drama.

Congratulations on the nominations, well deserved and I hope to be able to congratulate you on the wins as well, preferably for comedy but if someone wants to go for drama who are we to complain?
You've been quiet 'publically' the last few weeks. I hope you are cheerful and busy rather than depressed. Going quiet is a sign you know.

Congrats on all the nominations, very well deserved.

I heard the Souvenir Programme a couple of years ago and thought it was hilarious. Caught it on the way home from work today and it made me chuckle till I lost signal on the underground. I had an image of Armando Iannucci in my mind for some reason... but a quick Google search shows I had the wrong comedian in mind. Just googled you to find other work and found cabin pressure ... anywhere I can listen to it? It's not on iplayer... Love your Now Show stuff too. Keep 'em coming! Good luck with the nomination. Why does Audible.com.us not have series 3?

Are you still upset at the colonies' rebellion? A little bit angry about the whole tea in the sea thing? About spreading Starbucks and KFC and McDonald's everywhere?

A little cranky about our Sherlock Homes versus your Sherlock Holmes? Our version of Not Necessarily the News, The Daily Show? I mean, we did use Brits for both American comic book heroes (Superman) and villains (Loki), so we deserve a bit of a laugh, don't you think?

"Cumberbatch comedy"?

My dear BBC, as much as we love the dear fellow, Cabin Pressure is *so* much more than that.

Still, I guess it's a name that gets attention. Come for the Cumberbatch, stay for the Finnemore.

RE: Mary Mc - give iTunes a try. Season 3 is available on iTunes here in Australia. But then, maybe it's because we've always been much better behaved in regards to the Motherland.

I listened to all Cabin Pressure episodes at least 30 times (wow, iTunes just told me) and it's still making me laugh out loud.
Thank you very much for all the wonderful hours and good luck with your nominations.

Stop doodling in these blogs and get writing the next series... We need to know if Captain Martin is off to Switzerland... Voted now.. You deserve greater recognition for your work, thanks for the hysteria...

Sorry... Me again... Just read to the end of your blog.... Only one more episode??.... I'm just going off to sit in the corner and blub for a while..... Don't worry about me, I'll be fine....

Laura,

SP not on iTunes in the US. Our programming for everything from Downton Abbey to Dibley gets here months later than it does in the UK or Australia.

I really think there's a grudge match amongst the authority figures. Of course, it's not as if it's a calamity to learn patience and watch a little less TV and sit still for a radio show. You may have heard that we Americans are soft & over-sized enough to be a bouncy house for all of Europe.

I've just discovered JFSP and it has made work much more bearable, I've just been to vote for it (and CP too!)

"Come for the Cumberbatch, stay for the Finnemore". That is total genius Laura! My young sons are totally tickled that the smooth talking narrator of (BAFTA nominated) CBeebies cartoon "Sarah & Duck" sounds JUST LIKE Douglas... Personally I think Stephanie Cole has never been better and Mr F you are on fire. Mr C is smashing but as a team you are AMAZING!

Big congratulations to you XD.
However, I'm offended that they mentioned Cumberbatch way too much in the article. I'm his big fan but still it's not fair. Just wanna say this so you won't feel neglected.
Love =)

John, with that cliffhanger it has to also be drama. Very good luck to you!

Have voted John, hope you get the recognition that CP deserves, it's beautifully crafted radio comedy at its best. Kind regards.

You deserve ALL the awards!

You wonder about categories - my iTunes reckons CP series 1 and JFSP series 1 and 3 are music and CP Christmas special and series 2 & 3 and JFSP series 2 are audio books - what logic there?!

Congrats on the various nominations. Voted for both Cabin Pressure and JFSP on Comedy.co.uk. Some excellent radio programs this year -- I'm in Canada so didn't vote on the TV shows which we don't get to see (I'm looking FOR you, "QI"!).

Congrats from me as well, John. Voted. Best of luck to you.

Congratulations on the nominations! They're certainly deserved!

I just wanted to leave a note on the off chance you'll read it to say THANK YOU for Cabin Pressure. I'm home sick with a terrible virus today and quite frankly feeling more miserable than I have in quite a while, physically and emotionally. After attempting and failing to distract myself with an assortment of books and TV shows, I put Cabin Pressure on and now have been listening to it for the past three hours. It's keeping my spirits up and keeping me company on an otherwise sad and lonely day, and for that I am extremely grateful. Thank you John Finnemore, from a very sick but happily distracted fan!

Voted for both, Cabin Pressure should definitely win though, cos it's brilliant!!

Voted for both too.
I really really love the Souvenir Programme, so many wonderful things to discover there.
After Cabin Pressure I didn't think I would like another program as much but it simply is equally brilliant. Good luck to you.

Hi, John!

I'm a screenwriting student interested also in writing for the radio, and I was wondering, could you perhaps do an entry about how you wrote some episode of Cabin Pressure? It would be really helpful, if you walked us through the process and showed a picture of a script, so that we could see how you've formatted the script, what stage directions you've used, etc. I don't mean to ask you to show us the whole script, but just a small portion of a page could do to give us some idea of how you structured the script. (Or you could just copy-paste a bit of the script, if you prefer.)

Thank you in advance!

Ps. How did you get involved with radio comedies? I'd love to do those for BBC someday, but it seems quite tough to get your foot between the door, so to speak. Any tips?

Love, S.

Congrats on the wins! In the comments about winning shows you seem to be getting the credit for Mitchell & Webb's win too. Do you get a fancy award for your trophy cabinet?

Anonymous said...

Dear S - just look down the side bar and click on the cabin pressure entries then scroll down and you will see John's note books. I think you will find they show you what you are looking for.

On Linked in the is a John Finnemore who '... is committed to spreading higher spiritual teachings and philosophy that will raise and unite humanity.'

Surely our man??
